In celebration of the first official day of summer, I thought I’d pair up Maison Martin Margiela’s Resort 2012 collection with one of my favorite summer activities.. camping! After being stuck in the muggy city for a few months, I always welcome a weekend escape upstate to the mountains.
Well, I’m also including some Barbie packaging as well, but close enough! Something about Alice + Olivia’s Resort 2012 collection is giving off that fun, girly, 70′s Barbie vibe, don’t you think?
I actually really love Peter Pilotto’s Resort 2012 collection, but it does sort of remind me of the printed, button-up, mens shirts of the 90s that now litter thrift stores everywhere.
I love Yayoi Kusama’s work, especially her Infinity Mirror Rooms. I thought of her installations when I saw Naeem Khan’s Resort 2012 collection, and think they pair up in a fun surreal sort of way.
Something about The Row’s Resort 2012 Collection was giving off an old school Dick Tracy vibe.. Or I may be just over tired.
It may be the art school talking, but doesn’t the new Resort collection from Ports 1961 remind you a bit of the nature installations of Andy Goldworthy?
Alright this is a bit random, but when I saw Narciso Rodriguez’s Resort collection, I was somehow reminded of the multiple makeup catalogs that always magically appear in my mailbox around the holidays (although I can’t recall ever ordering any of my makeup via US mail).
Anyway, they always seem to showcase extreme, over-the-top makeup that looks more airbrushed (and then Photoshoped) than hand created, but it’s still always fun to look at.
Ok, I know I posted a Style Icon about Jem a while back, but all I could think of when I saw Michael Kors Resort 2012 collection was The Misfits! Well, actually I imagine it’s more like what The Misfits will dress like when they get old, join the country club, and all turn into soccer moms.
I’m going to get a little self-indulgent here because I’m feeling a bit lazy and, well, why not? As soon as I saw a few pieces from the new Erdem Resort 2012 collection, I thought of a painting I did a little while back entitled, Crow’s Nest. A girl can daydream, right?
